Tregongeeeves Guide to Cornwall in Autumn

There is plenty to do if you visit Cornwall in Autumn. Are you planning on fitting in a short break with us, or are you thinking about booking? Here’s a quick look around what’s on in Cornwall, and our own special take on time out Tregongeeves style.

Cornwall in autumn is a beautiful time to visit – in fact it might be our favourite time of year. The beaches are quiet again but there is a good chance of sun and it’s a perfect time for walking and exploring away from the beaten track. If you want to eat locally and seasonally you’re in luck because there is still plenty of choice – and you may even find local strawberries and tomatoes available.

If you want to eat out and make the most of our country pubs and quality restaurants, you’ll have a better chance of getting a table at the time you want than in August. And you may not even have to book.

Lost Gardens of Heligan

heligan feast night

Autumn would not be complete without Harvest celebrations. And this year we’ll be visiting our favourite Lost Gardens of Heligan to enjoy a Feast Night.

These nights are 5th and 12th October and will be a wonderful celebration of this year’s Harvest.

The Heligan Kitchen team will cook up a glorious three-course meal using home-grown produce and the gardening team will be on hand to answer questions about what’s on the menu and how it’s grown. To book your place, please call reception on 01726 845100. More information here

Join us to celebrate another triumphant gardening year with our annual Heligan Harvest Event. Visitors will have the opportunity to try some of Heligan’s unique and rare heritage produce at our daily tasters.

Harvest at Heligan is a busy time of year! You can join in with a Productive Garden tour and meet and talk to the team behind Heligan’s success. Or you can take the Harvest Trail to learn more about where our food comes from. Tours are daily 10am- 4pm from 6-12 October.

All Harvest activities are free with garden admission.

The Eden Project

One of our closest visitor attractions, Eden Project always has a lot going on throughout the year. September has an arts festival, October is all about beer and of course half term is full of spooky activities. Even if you don’t want to take part in any of the extra events, this is well worth visiting when you stay with us. Event list here.

Cornwall in autumn, on the beach

We recommend some time to explore the coast if you visit in Autumn. You really don’t have to do anything special to make the most of a short break here. The Roseland is beautiful at this time of year and several good walks are within easy reach of Tregongeeves. Porth Farm, Pendower Beach or Gorran Haven are close by for circular or coast path walks. Take a boat trip from St Mawes to Falmouth on sunny days, or visit the Hidden Hut. Porthcurnick is a great spot for Hidden Hut’s food with a view until the end of October. (Weekends only in autumn.)

And of course what better way to relax than to have a lovely walk in the fresh Cornish air, pasties on the beach and home to a cosy sofa to curl up in and sumptuous pillows to sink into at the end of the day. Our local pub serves great food, or we’re happy to recommend somewhere else a little further away.

We do have some availability for autumn, check space here or give Judith a call. We look forward to seeing you soon!
